Digital Radiographs

In order to provide our patients with the highest quality of dental services, we use digital dental radiographs, or X-rays, in our office. These radiographs provide us with invaluable information about your oral and dental health. While digital radiographic equipment does still produce radiation (and depends on that radiation to function properly), modern advances in digital technology reduces the amount of radiation 3 to 4 times less than traditional X-rays. Studies have shown that the amount of radiation produced by these machines is actually lower than some of the “normal” sources of radiation that we are exposed to on perhaps a daily basis, such as televisions and airplanes.

Soft Tissue Laser

Dr. Lenz uses a soft tissue laser in cases where gum tissue needs to be removed to help the eruption of a permanent tooth through the gum tissue. This can significantly reduce the amount of waiting time for a tooth to erupt. Sometimes tissue that covers an erupting molar can produce a "pocket" in which food can become trapped, causing the gum tissue to become sore and swollen. A laser easily removes this tissue, making brushing easier.

A soft tissue laser can also be used at the end of orthodontic treatment to trim excessive gums to help with esthetics. Because a laser is gentle, injections are not needed to numb the tissue, however, a locally applied topical anesthetic may be used for patient comfort.
